The following are some common machine hazards and risks:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Entanglement<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 When a worker&#8217;s body part or loose items worn by him\/her get caught in the moving machine parts.<\/li><li><strong>Impact<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Impact from moving machine parts or pressurised fluid jets that can cause abrasions and bruises.<\/li><li><strong>Cutting<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Contact with moving cutting elements such as blades that can cause severe injuries or amputations.<\/li><li><strong>Electrical<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Contact with faulty electrical components in machines such as live wires that can cause electrocution.<\/li><li><strong>Heat<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Contact with hot machine surfaces that can cause skin burns.<\/li><li><strong>Loud noise<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Excessive loud noise generated by machines that can cause noise-induced deafness (NID) after prolonged exposure.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-382e132 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"382e132\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Preventing Machine Hazards<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8148f3e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8148f3e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>There are 4 main reasons why accidents involving machines occur in the workplace:<\/p><ol><li>Failure to implement sufficient safe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsh-peer.com\/en\/safety-inspection-skills-every-construction-supervisor-should-master-in-singapore\/\">work<\/a> procedures on an organisational level;<\/li><li>Failure to follow safe work procedures due to ignorance, lack of experience or disregard for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsh-peer.com\/en\/safety-inspection-training\/\">safety<\/a>;<\/li><li>Lack of safety management practices to identify and eliminate unsafe acts and behaviours; and<\/li><li>Lack of adequate design for safe use, such as the absence of proper machine guards<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-97d4508 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"97d4508\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Risk Control Measures<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-67b3312 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"67b3312\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>After you have identified the machine hazards in your workplace, you need to evaluate the risks of these hazards and implement appropriate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsh-peer.com\/en\/risk-based-auditing-in-workplace-safety-a-comprehensive-approach\/\">risk<\/a> control measures. You should prioritise your measures according to the Hierarchy of Control. Upstream risk controls (i.e. elimination, substitution and engineering controls) are more effective in reducing or controlling risk, and should be considered trained and competent employees to operate machines.<\/li><li>Put up warning signs to warn employees of machine hazards.<\/li><li>Ensure all machines are properly guarded.<\/li><li>Educate employees on all machine hazards, relevant control measures and safe work procedures.<\/li><li>Provide employees with the correct PPE.<\/li><li>Schedule regular preventive maintenance for
