You need to communicating these risks to employees, contractors and other relevant parties.<\/span><\/p><p>The main components of RM include preparation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsh-peer.com\/en\/risk-based-auditing-in-workplace-safety-a-comprehensive-approach\/\">risk<\/a> assessment, risk control implementation, record-keeping and review. As an employer, self-employed person, or principal, you are required to conduct RA and implement<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/wsh-peer.com\/en\/prerequisites-mandated-fields-in-peer\/\">risk control measures <\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">before any new work starts<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You are also required to review RA <\/span><b>at least once every three years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon any accident, incident, near miss or dangerous occurrence.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When there is any significant change in work process or activity.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When new information on WSH risks is made known.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ad56a1f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ad56a1f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How to Prepare for Risk Assessments<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-67b3312 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"67b3312\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before you conduct RA, you need to:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Appoint a multidisciplinary Risk Assessment Team.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gather relevant information (e.g. list of work activities in the process).<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify the sub-activities of each work activity.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4365fba elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4365fba\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How to Conduct Risk Assessments<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f1f4cf5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f1f4cf5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conduct RA through the following steps:<\/span><\/p><p><strong>Hazard Identification<\/strong><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To identify hazards, you can use the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tal.sg\/wshc\/resources\/publications\/others\/risk-assessment-form\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Risk Assessment Form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or a similar document. If you are using the RA form, break down your work activity into sub-activities and use the &#8220;Hazard&#8221; column to record hazards.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may walk around your workplace to observe <\/span><b>processes, operations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>work activities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Look out for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsh-peer.com\/en\/safety-inspection-training\/\">safety<\/a> and health risks that could harm your employee or affect their health and well-being. There is a fire risk if they are carried out near to each other.<\/span><\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-routine work activities and situations<\/span><\/p><\/td><td><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintenance work and shut-down operations may introduce additional hazards that have not been identified as part of routine work activities.<\/span><\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work environment<\/span><\/p><\/td><td><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Working outdoors during adverse environmental conditions such as haze may cause respiratory problems among employees.<\/span><\/p><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e7161d8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e7161d8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Risk Evaluation<\/strong><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After you&#8217;ve identified the hazards, you need to evaluate the risk level of each hazard based on the:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Likelihood of the hazard causing harm; and<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Severity of the harm.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When evaluating the risks of health hazards such as toxic substances and noise, you must conduct <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mom.gov.sg\/workplace-safety-and-health\/monitoring-and-surveillance\/hygiene-monitoring\/requirements\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hygiene monitoring<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to estimate employees&#8217; exposure levels to these hazards, and compare their exposure levels with established permissible exposure limits. Reasonably practicable measures should be taken to protect people from harm.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You should select your risk control measures based on the Hierarchy of Control. For example, engineering controls need to be implemented together with administrative controls such as training and safe work procedures to address the hazard sufficiently.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be explored only after upstream risk controls have been considered, as a short-term contingency during emergency, maintenance, repair or as an additional protective measure against residual risks. The effectiveness of PPE depends greatly on whether it is chosen and fitted correctly, worn at all times and maintained properly.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">For hazards that cannot be controlled immediately, interim control measures should be implemented while establishing longer term measures to reduce the risk level.
